It's all in the Details..
It's all in the Details...
So you are in the beginning stages of planning a big remodel. You know how you want the room to look, but need some guidance.
Remember that to achieve a stunning room, it's all in the details.
Lighting: You need task lighting, project lighting and accent lighting. Light bulbs come in traditional and fluorescent. When buying fluorescent (long lasting and good for the environment), consider that they have three different hues, blue, yellow and white. Each will give you a completely different look. In a kitchen I recommend White, because you would not want your dinner party to take on a yellowish hint and not show off your work. In a family room the yellow hue will be warm and inviting. Recessed lighting is great for highlighting certain areas and now the recessed lighting kits are easier than ever to install, even in an older home.
Flooring: Hardwood, engineered flooring, tile, laminate or carpet. Hardwoods look great throughout a home, just keep in mind the moisture levels in the environment. Also hardwoods are not good on concrete, better to use engineered flooring for a basement remodel. Laminates have come a long way over the years to not look like laminate and can go right over an existing floor of the same material. Stay away from carpet in the bathroom and kitchen. Tile comes in all sorts of variety, color, style and dimensions. Many companies now offer radiant heat under hardwoods and tile, it's easy to install and worth every penny in my book.
Paint: Paint has come a long way in recent years. You can get a totally different look by adding glaze to the paint. You can get paint with primer already inside. The color selections are amazing and don't be afraid to ask for a color match of your favorite pillow or curtains. Paint one wall in the room a darker hue of the main color for some boldness. I always recommend a satin finish. It's durable, washable and not shiny.
So, have fun with your next project and remember it's all in the details.
